My incredibly talented niece, Megan McGonagill, has her graphic design work on exhibit in France...I'm honored that she used my photo in her work of art! It's on exhibit at the Atelier Deux Mondes Art Gallery in Metz, France. Megan is a beautiful, talented, and extremely smart young woman. I have always known that she was destined for greatness. Seriously, God has blessed her with many gifts and talents. I'm so proud of her and for her!

I love this song...Hope Now by Addison Road. It might be playing now...it's on my player to the right. Lately, I've been singing it in my head all throughout the day, and the lyrics speak to me...

One more thing...I was reading the blog post for the Life Journal tonight, and I must say, over and over again I feel inadequate as a witness in this world. Self-doubt is the biggest battle I fight. It's the devil...literally. When I read David Hardin's prayer tonight, it confirmed what I already knew...satan breathes his lies into my mind on a daily basis. When I start to believe him and doubt myself, he's winning the battle.

Prayer:
God, help me to learn to pray continually and to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Take away any fears, doubts or shame that might creep into my thoughts about being your witness to a lost world. Teach me to listen for and hear your voice when it speaks and be willing to act, no matter what the cost.

Look what was nesting in the bush...a dove! It's beautiful. Well, both of my dad's cancer doctors say that they don't think the spot on his spine is cancer. I'm sure my medical terminology is lame, but it's the best I can do. They are going to watch it closely. He goes back in two months for another MRI. Every prayer lifted up on his behalf is greatly appreciated. It means more to me that you'll ever know. Even if I've never met you. Keep praying, and if I can pray for you, let me know.

Have you ever been shaken to the core? So much so, that it physically hurts? The kind of hurt that makes you cry…really cry…an ugly cry. You know, like Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give. That was me today. My mom called and said the doctors found a spot on my dad’s spine. I went to the prayer room at church. Mostly, just to have time to think and talk to God in a quiet place. On the way there, no sooner than the car door shut, it was on. The tears came, and they wouldn’t stop. I wailed a few times. I cried out to my Heavenly Father and asked him to heal my earthly father. He’s done it before. Two years ago, my dad was diagnosed with stage four head and neck cancer. God brought him through it.

In the prayer room, instrumental music plays softly. During my prayer, the words to the song that was playing came to me. I started whispering them.

He knows my name
He knows my every thought,
He sees each tear that falls
and hears me when I call

It was comfort when I needed it most. Please pray for him.

You've got to listen to this! We had a guest speaker at church today, Wayne Cordeiro, a pastor from Hawaii. I had to keep wiping at my face to keep the tears away during the sermon. Finally, I couldn't fight them back any longer. I just bowed my head a bit so it wasn't quite so obvious tears were streaming down my cheeks. I've been running away from God lately. I justify it by telling myself I'm too busy to keep up with my daily devotional and Bible reading. I say I'll volunteer for another missions day the next time it comes around, and so on, and so on... I'm telling you, He was speaking to me today. And no, I'm not talking about Wayne Cordeiro. Click the link below and then click on the yellow circle with the picture of the t.v. A few months ago, we went to visit my sister and celebrate Alex's birthday. After the pool party, Seth had a crawfish boil at his house. It was sooo good...I love crawfish.

While the crawfish were boiling, we played a game...David says it must be a cajun thing. Have you ever played this game before? I don't even know what it's called! It consists of six washers and two homemade wooden boxes connected by a piece of rope. Whatever it is, it's fun!

I'm finally back after a self-imposed blogging ban! It didn't start out as such, but somewhere along the way, I decided to take a break from several things over the summer. This leads me to my question:

Do you have a place that is all your own...a place where you go for a little peace and quiet? A place where you read or think or just observe nature? Maybe it's a special spot in your house where you get up early and read your Bible. Maybe it's not so much a place as it is something you do, such as running or gardening. I have a spot that I go to whenever I need a little peace and quiet. I love it early in the morning and late in the afternoon. My green adirondack chair...I love to watch the birds, smell the herbs growing in the terra cotta pots, and think. Sometimes, I drink a Diet Coke and flip thru magazines for decorating ideas and recipes. Sometimes, I read my Bible and drink a cup of coffee. David has a hammock. That's also where the girls congregate with friends. I can't tell you how many times over the summer that I've looked out the kitchen windows to see girls swinging slowly in the hammock while talking and laughing. I often wonder what they're talking about. I think about how wonderful it is to be a child and how that one image so closely resembles the childhood I had. Do you have a spot to call your own or a certain thing you do to alleviate stress and retreat from the rat race we call life? If you don't, I encourage you to find one!

I wonder why I thought my life would be -normal... I don't think there is such a thing...what defines normal?

I always knew I would - have girls, still be clumsy and quirky...

Never in my life have I - funneled beer or gotten a tattoo...WHAT?! It's the first thing that came to mind, and it's the truth!

High school was - fun, but I'm glad it's over!

When I’m nervous- I do things way too fast...I have to tell myself to breathe and slow down!

One time at a family gathering - on Christmas Eve at my grandmother's house, her cousin stopped by for the usual holiday visit. He was feeling very reminiscent (had a little too much holiday cheer, if you know what I mean...if you don't know, that means he was drunk)...anyway, he was telling a story about the good ole days, cigarette in hand, while eating pieces of turkey off a tray. As he was telling the story, the ash on the cigarette grew longer and longer. As a bored twelve year old, this was amusing to me. No one else seemed to notice. Then, the tower of ash fell below onto the tray of turkey. He never looked at the turkey, only reaching over to fold a piece and bring it to his mouth. He never knew the long roll of ash was hidden in the piece of turkey he was eating. I watched in amusement as he ate the whole piece, ash and all. I still laugh when I think about it all these years later...

Take my advice - 1.) Take lots of photos of your kiddos while they are young and cute...before teeth start to fall out and they hit that awkward growth spurt...2.) Enjoy where you are in life...it goes by too fast to say, "I'll be happy when...".

I’m addicted to - cracked pepper and olive oil Triscuits washed down with a Diet Coke (at first, you thought it said crack, didn't you?), my camera, my MacBook Pro, reading something, even if it's the back of the shampoo bottle...

Okay, funny story...I really think it's one of those "you-had-to-be-there" funny stories, but, nonetheless, I'll share it!
Alex was at our house a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon. He was on the back porch with the girls when, all of a sudden, he comes running thru the house screaming, "The ice cream truck! The ice cream truck is coming! I hear it! I hear it!"
Poor little man, he thought he heard an ice cream truck...little did he know that in the five years we've lived in this house, I've never seen an ice cream truck come down the street. I tried to break it to him as gently as possible, not wanting to crush his little spirit. After all, I'm the adult, and I know everything, right? How is it that in adulthood we sometimes lose that child-like sense of wonder? You hear music playing? It MUST be the ice cream truck!
Okay, back to the story...as I try to explain to him that there is no way possible it was the ice cream truck, he is assuring me that it is in fact, the ice cream truck. He was so certain, it broke my heart! He ran to the front porch and planted himself on the front steps, declaring that he would sit right there until the truck came by. I told Jordan and Shelby to stay on the steps with him, knowing that eventually, he would lose faith and come inside.
Then I heard it...music...that song...what is it? As the girls fling the front doors open, Alex is excitedly yelling, "I told you so! I TOLD you so!" David and I run to the front door. I look at him and say, "I think I heard it, too...could it really be...?" I look out and see Jordan and Shelby trying to hang on to Alex...it was like watching two girls trying to catch a greased pig! He was determined to break free and run for it! I rush over, pick him up, and we run across the street to the park. All the while, he's saying, "I told you so! OOOH! Get out of the street! He's gonna run over us, Ne-Ne!" I'm laughing so hard, tears are streaming down my face. Barefoot, still in my church clothes, and with Alex on my hip, I'm running toward the truck to flag him down. I point to our street and motion for him to come our way. I look around for David, realizing we're chasing the ice cream truck and have no money! He's one step ahead of me and runs toward the sidewalk, cash in hand.
As the ice cream truck turned down our street, we all stood on the sidewalk, cheering and waving. It must have looked like a parade. As the music played, one by one, each child went to the window to buy ice cream. With camera in hand, laughing and crying, I sat on the grass and watched as Alex smiled the smile of knowing for sure that he heard the ice cream truck...he told us so!

Best Fruit Salad Ever...

Ingredients
2 and 1/2 pounds seedless grapes
8 ounces sour cream
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar

TOPPING INGREDIENTS
1 cup brown sugar, packed, to taste
1 cup crushed pecan, to taste

Directions:
Wash and stem grapes.
Set aside.
Mix sour cream, cream cheese, and white sugar by hand until blended.
Stir grapes into mixture, and pour in large serving bowl.
For topping: Combine brown sugar, and crushed pecans.
Sprinkle over top of grapes to cover completely.
Chill overnight.

If you're having a Mother's Day lunch, this is yummy! It has fruit, so...that makes it healthy, right?

Mo-Mo's Day...

I love my girls...I guess we're going to celebrate Mother's Day all weekend long...if so, that's just fine by me! Shelby made an amazing flower card...it touched my heart...she asked me why I didn't cry tears of joy, so I told her I almost did! She replied, "Well, I want you to!" She's so funny. Did you read the last part? I'm a gift from God? Sometimes I feel so unworthy, inadequate as a mother...then, I remember that every day is a new day! If I screw up, my children forgive me. God does, too. I love the fact that I'm clever, provide marvelous clothes, and a splendid home. Most importantly, she knows that I care and I'm there for her when she's scared. I am humbled that she says I'm a gift from God. It does make me want to cry tears of joy, and thank God for His goodness. Silly girl, she closed the letter with, "You(r) #1 daughter, Shelby"...Jordan made the cutest banner and hung it on the back fence. Happy "Mo-Mo's" Day...she always calls me Mo-Mo...I love it! By the way, later on, I did cry. It was mixed emotions of, "Father, I AM so unworthy, and so humbled that you love me, and that you have blessed me beyond measure. My children are blessings from God above and I thank Him everyday. Jordan and Shelby, you Are so amazing! Okay, I've got to go and pull myself together now!

Jenny made a heart-touching Mother's Day cd with the kids at school this week...it was a cd of each child reading his or her own hand-written letter of "I Love My Mom Because...". The background music was this song...Amazing, by Janelle. As the music plays and the children read a letter of love, a slideshow of beautifully colored pictures of mom and child play. Lord, I thank you for the joy and privilege of praying for others. What a blessing to be able to intercede, to stand in the gap and move heaven and earth for those I love. Have you listened to Love Is Here by Tenth Avenue North? It's my new favorite song...about a year and a half ago, I turned the radio to 100.9, K Love. I was a little intimidated, not knowing hardly any of the songs I heard. I recognized a few from church. I wanted to start listening to Christian music, but I couldn't sing along with any of the songs! You see, I'm the person in the car behind you...the one you stare at in the rear view mirror...you know, the one singing like no one's watching, the one you laugh at...yep, that's me. I know it's amusing, I laugh when I look in my mirror and see people doing this! I also try to read lips and figure out what song they're singing! Anyway, I was having trouble with the thought of not knowing the words to the songs. I was also clinging to all of the secular music that I loved. I gradually started tuning into K Love on a regular basis, going back and forth for a while. Believe me, it was a little rocky for a while. We all knew the words to the hit songs. We could sing the songs about cheating or shaking something without really thinking about the words we were actually saying! Even Jordan said, "Why do they have to be so encouraging all the time? It's getting on my nerves!" Well, after a month or two, I could sing along with most of the songs! It's gradually become the only radio station we listen to! When I was growing up, we didn't have anything like this...no matter what genre of music you listen to, there's a Christian version that sounds just as good...and the lyrics are much better! Go to iTunes and listen to some of these songs...one more thing...it also helps to listen to uplifting music while in traffic...it's harder to have road rage while singing songs of praise...not that I would have road rage, or anything...

Prayer for Salvation...

Lord, I ask and pray in the name and power of Jesus that You would plant a seed in my child's heart to desire You. I pray she would come to know You personally at a young age. Help her to know You as her Savior and Lord and stay on the straight, narrow path to Your kingdom. Give her ears to hear, eyes to see, and a heart to receive Your love gift of salvation. Draw my child to Yourself, I pray.

David spent the weekend fishing in Empire, Louisiana. Jordan spent the weekend on the beach in Florida. Shelby and I decided to make the most of our weekend at home by having a little maintenance work done...haircuts all around! After that, we did a little shopping and took a trip to the art gallery. Shelby spent her birthday money on new clothes and a snazzy pink purse from Monkey Charms. It's a brand new store with trendy purses, shoes, and jewelry at bargain prices.

Help me to connect to my kids at this age and seek to understand their world. I thank you that the battle is not mine to fight, but Yours, Lord.

No, she's not a teenager yet, but, I'm starting to see her heading that way. Only one more year...I'm so torn with emotion...I just can't believe how true it is when people say, "They'll be grown before you know it!" I'm actually letting her go on a weekend trip to the beach with a friend and her family. I've already warned her (a hundred times) of all the dangers of the world. I told her not to go into the water too far (sharks), not to go to the bathroom alone (creepy men), to be alert, etc...I prayed this morning that God would give me peace and confidence. I worry about her so...When I read the verse above, I realized the battle is not mine...Thank you, Father, for Your protection over my children, and for the peace in knowing that You alone are GOD. You give me peace and comfort in my moments of self-doubt and fear.

We spent a weekend visiting with my parents and my sister's crew...it was so good to roll around in the grass, feed the ducks, sit out on the deck talking about our childhood, it was good to laugh and take it easy...my mom left for Hong Kong this morning. Our visit was to spend time with her and my dad before she left. Please pray for her safe return. Look at Jordan, she's growing up. Heather and I went to Hayden's baby shower Saturday afternoon. Okay, I officially feel old. Not really, but reality set in...everyone had aged...the church ladies who give every mother-to-be a baby shower, my niece, my own daughters...it wasn't that long ago the baby shower was for Jordan...I'm thankful for every year added on to my life. God is so good to us.

Did you love these as a child? I did...I can vividly remember lying in the grass, daydreaming, making a wish, and poof! With one quick puff of air, little pieces of dandelion scattered into the wind. Oh, how I dreamed of being a grown-up. I dreamed of a life outside of my small town, a life filled with excitement.

It's funny that in childhood, we spend our lives wanting to be grown. In adulthood, we dream of being a child again. Lately, I go outside, see the dandelions, and dream of my childhood. It's not that I literally want to be a child again, it's that I dream of the quiet life I grew so restless of...with that said, here's my verse for today...

The Crossroads...

**This is a post from about this time last year along with a few more photos I found...
I took this last year on a trip to the Delta with my sister, Heather.

The Crossroads...Robert Johnson went to the Crossroads, so the legend goes, he left with his guitar and the devil took his soul.
How interesting is that legend? When we visited his gravesite later that day, on his marker was this: Jesus of Nazareth. King of Jerusalem. I know that my Redeemer liveth and that He will call me from the grave. Handwritten by Robert Johnson, shortly before his death and preserved among family papers by his sister, Carrie H. Thompson.

Did he really sell his soul to the devil? I don't know, but I do know that we all come to the crossroads at some point in our life. And yes, the devil is there.

As a Christian, I know that I am called to serve the body of Christ-to do His will. The devil does not want me to. He wants me to use my time unwisely so that I am unproductive and sedentary in my spiritual growth. I take an Equipping class on Tuesdays and today we talked about having a plan and setting goals. One of my favorite verses is Jeremiah 29:11. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future."
In our workbook it says that the trouble with most of our plans is that they focus only on getting things done. The focus rarely is on getting GOD'S things done. When we set our goals each year, do we really consider what God wants us to accomplish that year?

"Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." Proverbs 19:21

My first thoughts are not about laying my requests before my Lord and going into my day waiting in expectation, but it should be...some days I do, but most days I don't. Why is it so hard for me to let go and let Him be in control of my life instead of trying to do things on my own? I'm going to pray for wisdom and discernment. I'm going to seek Him early in the morning.

Okay, I know most of you have no desire to see a photo of a dog napping, but she's just so cute! A few facts about rat terriers:

They are very intelligent, alert, and loving dogs

They are not yappers (whew....)

The rat terrier is a very well mannered, well rounded dog (probably more so than my kids...)

They are very good swimmers ( Hmmm, I wonder if Castlewoods CC will let us bring Jiggy along when we go to the pool...)

They make superb pets for children as they can play endlessly and have a natural instinct to protect young children

They pick up training faster than most dogs (and kids...and husbands...)

I took this photo in Mexico this summer. This little boy broke my heart...if ever I've felt God's love, it was in Mexico. It's so hard to put into words. Actually, I can't put it into words. Why would children, whom we've never met before, hold on to us? I won't say hug, because it was more than that. It absolutely changed me. My prayer is that God will use me...I love Isaiah 6:8...Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!" The song at the bottom, You Said, by Shane and Shane, I first heard while in Mexico. Every time I hear it, a flood of emotion courses through me. Play it, and listen closely to the words. I can't fathom the depth of His love for us...I'm so unworthy, yet so grateful...

I have a confession to make...I have wasted away another perfectly good day! We stayed in AGAIN today...it's just so cold outside, and we have no appointments, nowhere we HAVE to be...so, I shouldn't feel so guilty, right? Besides, it's back to reality tomorrow! It starts off with an early morning appointment at the orthodontist! I've been reading blogs again today. I did some legit stuff as well...washed all the sheets in the house, bathed the dog, sent my oldest child out into the cold to get the mail...of course, I've been reading the Pioneer Woman's blog. She had a photo of her child with his finger up his nose...I couldn't do that to my own child, but my nephew is a different story! Like I have said before...it's disgusting, but funny if it's not your own child! I would like to take this time to apologize to my sister for continuing to share this photo that I took two years ago...it's just that it's truly one of my favorites!

We spent the day cooking, watching football, and looking at old photo albums. I realized that I haven't put together a photo album in about two years! I have tons of photos...I think one resolution for this year will be to do a Blurb blog book and a photo book. Look at these photos from 2004...my, how our girls have grown...this is why I love photos...one look at these and I was there at the beach that day...oh, happy day!

One more thing...the sample blog book at Blurb is the book of Sheye Rosemeyer. I came upon a link to her blog while reading the Tate's blog. It is beautiful, haunting, heartbreaking...I read the entire blog in one sitting.

Best Cookie Ever...

Ginger Cookies

1 cup butter, softened
1 ¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup molasses
2 ¾ cup all purpose flour
1 ¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 Tablespoon cinnamon
1 Tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons powdered ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons nutmeg
½ teaspoon salt
1 box raw sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugars in mixer for five minutes. Beat in egg and molasses. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture until blended. Dip Tablespoon sized balls of dough in raw sugar. Place on cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Do not over bake! These cookies are best when soft and chewy. Transfer to wire rack to cool. Cookies can be stored in airtight container.
